Description
The Department of Archival, Library & Information Studies of the University of West Attica is the oldest in the country. It is the evolution of the department of Library Science & Information Systems, which operated under the Technical Educational Institute of Athens from 1977 to 2018. The Department aims at providing quality education for archivists, librarians and information scientists with a high level of knowledge and skills.

Mission
The studies in the department include all the branches of the traditional Information Sciences (Library, Archives, Museology and Documentation), which with the decisive influence of technology are integrated in the wider context of Information Management. It targets areas such as information search and retrieval, collection development, information organization and processing, and information dissemination, regardless of the substrate on which sources are recorded. Following international developments, the Department examines cultural, scientific and also administrative and business information, in a single theoretical and applied framework utilizing modern technologies.

Administrative Structure
The highest administrative body of the Department is the Assembly, which consists of all faculty members of the Department, a representative of the laboratory teaching staff as well as student representatives.
