Abstract:
The purpose of the present study is to analyse the characteristics of migratory movement to Greece. The present paper attempts to broaden the understanding of migratory movement to Greece focusing on a select region of Greece-Epirus. The paper is structured as follows. The first section reviews the existing literature on the theories of migration. The second section gives an overview of the statistics dates concerning Greece and one of the Greek regions, Epirus. The analysis is based on secondary data sources, which are an important first step in developing a basis for future research that integrate both social and economic dimensions. The third section highlights issues associated with defining “causes” and “consequences” of migration. The fourth section highlights important findings and offer concluding remarks.
