Abstract: 
A Mediterranean country, Greece is a member of the European Union (EU) and the Council of Europe*. In January 2003 the six-month EU presidency will pass to Greece, which will be keen to promote strong intervention concerning public pension schemes as well as occupational retirement provision. The Greek authorities, namely the Ministry of National Economy and the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, have already started to discuss relevant social policy scenarios at EU level.
