Abstract:
Recent socio-economic, demographic and epidemiological changes have directed the scientific community towards the development of a systematic theoretical model that can forecast the development of health care systems in the next 30 years. This article assesses the requirements generated by change in the health care services, and the ways in which they can be cov-ered by new models adopted by health care systems. The socioeconomic and environmental changes are analyzed, using a holistic model applicable for both Greece and for the European region. This holistic model incorporates and extends the various possible innovative technological and scientific applications that affect employment, medical and biogenetic engineering, energy production, transport, consumer behavior patterns, inequalities, and indicators of human development and individual and global well-being. These variables determine the new health needs and the quantitative data by which these needs are measured, and also the possible economic scenarios. This holistic methodological analysis model provides the scope to determine the structural characteristics of new types of health care systems in 2050, in the context of sustainable preventive behavior and the impact of the digital world on the individual.
