Organizations, both public and private, change. The environment within which they function changes due to the dynamic interaction of many variables. For this reason, it is inevitable that organizations go through a process of change. Health-care organizations are no exception to the rule. There are different types of change, and an organization such as a health-care unit should be aware of the reasons for each change that it makes, as well as of its capacity to absorb a given change, namely, the capacity of its staff members to implement that change. Each change has unique characteristics and purposes, and for this reason, not all models are appropriate for all changes. This chapter: Analyzes the terms “change” and “innovation” and presents the various types of change as well as the reasons for an organization to introduce change Investigates the roots of resistance to change and suggests positive antidotes to to confront it effectively resents in depth the various strategies for change and how they allow these processes to be addressed in a more effective way Goes through the models for change as well as the basic elements for the successful implementation of change in the health-care sectoren_US
