Abstract: 
The main aim of this chapter is to present the dimensions of the regulatory framework leading to the European Banking Union. There is an attempt to analyze the pillars that form it, even though they are still in progress. Ensuring the stability and effectiveness of the financial system is of paramount importance for the development of social and economic prosperity. The analysis is built on the experiences from the recent crisis, in order to reach clear conclusions about the necessity and the role of the European Banking Union.
