Abstract:
Effective financial management in health care units can result in decrease of expenditures, cost controlling and extensive information for the stakeholders and any interested party with regard to the benefits of environmental policies adopted. This study applies the methodology of environmental accounting in the chart of accounts of a Greek hospital. The main objective was to estimate the operational effect of the application of said methodology to the operations of a Greek hospital. According to the results of our study, which verify the conclusions of relevant research, environmental accounting is capable of improving the quality of decision making through the recording and minimisation of environmental costs as well as through the recognition of potential revenue streams, creating profit by adopting green and sustainable business practices.
