This paper seeks to establish a Virtual Library (VL) model. More specifically, a suggested model of a VL with technical digital content is described with regard to aggregating and displaying the research papers or data produced at National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). The architecture of the model consists of two main categories: the advanced access services and the digital content creation/production and aggregation services. As far as the access services are concerned, there will be virtual tours, virtual shelves and Virtual Reference Desk. On the other hand, the digital content production and aggregation services will include an integrated Institutional Repository (IR), e-publishing and special digital collections in conjunction with a Retrospective Material Depositing Service. The twin goals of the implementation of the proposed VL model are to gather all NTUA’s scientific and technical content and, simultaneously, to provide new, personalized and advanced services.
