Abstract:
This paper deals with an iterative signal enhancement algorithm (ISE) for noise reduction in speech, based on SVD, in combination with a model order estimation criterion. This algorithm has an improved frequency selectivity for filtering out the noise and performs better with respect to the higher formants of speech. The criterion provides an automatic evaluation of the number of iterations of the algorithm, which, in the past, was preset manually depending on the noise level. The results have been evaluated by informal listening tests and SNR computations, showing improved performance of ISE in comparison to the classical SVD algorithm.
